Rim of the World Recreation and Park District
On the ballot: Measure R
Key findings
- Measure R raises the park parcel tax from $22 to $37 a year and adds a 1% annual increase, with no end date. It brings in about $510K more in its first year and needs two-thirds. [1][2]
- The parcel tax already pays about 70% of the district's $1.1M budget. The district runs 12 parks, a sports complex and two community centers across 110 square miles, and gets no state or county operating money. [2]
- No argument against was filed. An independent auditor reports each year on what was collected and spent. [1]
Measure R: Park parcel tax from $22 to $37
Your pick
What it does: Starting July 1, 2027, raises the special parcel tax to $37, plus 1% a year. Money goes to a special account for park upkeep and repairs, recreation programs and staff, equipment, and emergency repairs after snow, flood or fire. Two-thirds to pass. [1]
Does it solve a lasting problem? Insurance and utility costs are rising, and the district says it has already cut staff and studied fees. A flat per-parcel tax costs a cabin owner the same as a large property owner. [2]
